Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Innovate Higher Education: Opportunities and Threats
ACEEU leading the conversation on AI in HEI, a successful event of the Qual-AI-ty Engagement project
ACEEU and the project partners brought together leading experts in higher education to explore how AI is transforming the sector and the implications for education. Panellists considered the potential of AI in personalised learning pathways and intelligent tutoring systems, and also addressed concerns over bias, fairness and ethical considerations. Additionally, QUALIA, an AI-powered tool developed as part of this EU-funded project, was presented. It collects and analyses data to enhance the quality assurance procedures of higher education institutions. The event provided a collaborative environment to explore the transformative potential of AI in higher education.
Embedding Sustainability in Higher Education Institutions
Higher Education Institutions are key actors in the advancement of sustainability due to their mandate of creating knowledge and forming new leaders with the competencies and vision to foster change. However, HEI efforts, although echoed across national strategies and policies, remain at an operational level that has yet to transcend systemic embeddedness. This is the solution ACEEU offers to European HEIs through DECODE Sustainability Project.
ACEEU together with consortium partners celebrated the DECODE Empowerment Program, a three-day training event held in Barcelona from 22nd-24th March 2023, for deans, heads of department, and the representatives for sustainability in their institutions. The DECODE Tools were introduced and used to aid them to promote Sustainable Development.
These DECODE tools and methodologies come as a game-changer for European HEIs to support further institutionalisation of sustainable development in their academic units.
ACEEU shapes third mission of Ukrainian higher education through UNICOM project
ACEEU contributes to building system-level third mission capacities in the Ukrainian higher education landscape, this time through the UNICOM project (Universities-Communities: Strengthening Cooperation). The final aim of the project is to embed third mission into national policies and guide the interplay between practice, theory and policy, with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine being one of the beneficiaries. We also see and contribute to understanding the diversity and variousness of activities lumped under 'third mission', that are shaped by the specifics of each context. ACEEU is very proud to be part of shaping the future of Ukrainian universities by making them more entrepreneurial and engaged.
