2024 ACEEU Americas Forum & Triple E Awards
Three days of sharing, learning and celebrating
The 2024 ACEEU Americas Forum in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was the first major event of ACEEU in the Americas and a great opportunity for sharing and celebrating knowledge, experiences and achievements across the continent and beyond.
We sincerely thank our conference partner, the Triple Helix Association, and our wonderful host, the University of Sao Paulo, for making this event such a successful experience.
Congratulations to Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) in Chile for being awarded the Most Impactful University of the Year for its transformative educational initiatives, and to Pablo Vera for being named the Most Impactful Leader for his visionary leadership. Additionally, the McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship from McGill University in Canada has been recognized as the Most Impactful Initiative of the Year for its innovative programs.
A heartfelt thank you to all participants for contributing to rethinking the future of higher education and exploring and creating potential solutions. Together, let's build resilience, embrace new ideas, and make a lasting difference!
Celebrating both the culmination of the 2024 Americas Triple E Awards and the month of AI, Rafael Chanin outlines some risks and advantages AI presents for the future of education. Learn from one of the year's finalists about how to use the boundless potential of AI from manual tasks to enhancing creative processes. But what are the possibilities for using AI in the classroom? And should educators be wary of AI or embrace it? Spoiler alert: change is inevitable.
NOVA IMS is the first Portuguese university to join the ACEEU Community!
NOVA IMS is a reference institution at the forefront of education and innovation, sharing a culture of cooperation and responsibility, whilst also preparing its students for the challenges of a world increasingly technological and guided by artificial intelligence. NOVA IMS also focuses on areas such as information management, information technologies, and systems and data science, bringing together teachers, students, and collaborators. NOVA IMS promotes collaboration in professional and academic activities and establish cooperation mechanisms that enable joint participation in technical-scientific and academic projects.
NOVA IMS stands out for the adoption of generative artificial intelligence in its classrooms, by providing teachers and students access to Microsoft Azure OpenAI technology. This transformative partnership aims to leverage the opportunities of generative AI in this area, innovating teaching practices, boosting education for today's challenges, and promoting positive changes in learning methods.
ACEEU contributes to the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education institutions by implementing various EU-funded projects that inspire others to engage in similar efforts.
AI Leaders understands that better solutions begin in higher education. The project guides business and management students on the moral and practical applications of AI and entrepreneurship.
Ethical Engineer seeks to empower future AI experts to create systems aligned with European values, ethical guidelines, and societal well-being by instilling ethical principles in higher education, targeting engineering and robotics students.
SDG-iLevel is a good example of the use of AI in universities. The Online Visibility Booster, based on generative AI algorithms, allows university staff to quickly create and publish social media posts (smart texts and appealing images) to effectively promote their individual SDG contributions.
My name is Jeldo Arno Meppen, and I work as a Digital Solutions Designer at ACEEU. In simple terms, I am responsible for the digital user experiences in some of our projects, mainly CyberSecPro, DICE, BETTER Life, SDG i-Level and RestART Europe. In practice that means I provide web development and user interface design and support. Internally, I oil the digital cogs of the machine that is ACEEU and make sure everything is running smoothly and as expected, providing basic tech support to the team and streamlining digital processes with automation.
As many technically minded individuals can surely relate, I love satisfying that puzzle itch when faced with a problem. I enjoy discovering, working on, and refining solutions, iterating through ideas, and ultimately creating something to be proud of. Working in EU Projects has been a great experience since I am passionate about technology and its potential to make the world a better place and I am grateful to have the opportunity to bring these two passions together, alongside a diverse and supportive team at ACEEU.
