The Poznan University of Medical Sciences’ receives ACEEU accreditation as Engaged University

The Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) has awarded the Poznan University of Medical Sciences’ (PUMS), in Poland, the accreditation as an Engaged University. PUMS is the third Polish university and the first medical university to achieve ACEEU accreditation, underscoring their commitment and positive influence in the City of Poznan community and ecosystem.

In the words of Prof. Michał Nowicki, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation: “Obtaining accreditation is an expression of appreciation for our academic community and the University Authorities for conducting activities that are oriented to exerting a positive impact on the surrounding society”.

The six evaluators that contributed to the accreditation of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences unanimously recognized PUMS for their outstanding commitment to engagement, evident through strong internal support structures and dedication to their third mission activities. They highlighted the institution's cooperation with several external stakeholders. Of particular note was PUMS collaboration with external stakeholders. Their commitment is evidenced in science promotion activities and research projects, led by students and employees. These initiatives embrace a broad spectrum of the community, from seniors to children, and local businesses.

“Poznan University of Medical Sciences accreditation exemplifies an institution integrated within its local ecosystem through strong collaborations with institutions and authorities within the same field. There is a high potential in the university influence on the city Health system through the continuous inclusion of engagement in the institutions mission” says Thorsten Kliewe, Chair of the Peer Review Team

To receive this accreditation, Poznan University of Medical Sciences succeeded in presenting evidence of their achievements in the 15 standards of ACEEU accreditation for engagement. The university went through a four-phase process, including a self-evaluation and peer review visit, before the Accreditation Council awarded the Engaged University status. The university was reviewed by Prof Dr Thorsten Kliewe, Prof. Katarzyna Socha and Maria Jose Herrero Villa during the Peer Review Visit, and the accreditation was conducted by Dr Lina Landinez, Brian Darmody and Gideon Maas, who took part as the Accreditation Committee.
