For the first time, the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) has awarded an African university with the Engaged University Accreditation. The recognition goes to Central University of Technology (CUT) in South Africa, highlighting its commitment to creating societal impact through close collaboration with key stakeholders, especially its regional community. This achievement aligns with CUT’s ambitious Vision 2030, which seeks to position the university as a leader in shaping higher education as the future of technology and innovation.
Prof. Pamela Z. Dube, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of CUT, expressed pride in the university's accomplishment, stating: "This accreditation marks a turning point in CUT’s journey to becoming a world-class institution of technology. It reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students who have embraced innovation and entrepreneurship. As the first African university to receive this recognition, CUT is paving the way for African institutions to address regional and global challenges and prepare our students for success in tomorrow’s industries."
During the accreditation process, the university presented ample evidence of its commitment engagement in education, highlighting how its programs are tailored to meet the needs of the region and drive meaningful impact for individuals and communities. The ACEEU Accreditation Committee, after thoroughly reviewing the evidence provided assessed 12 standards at a satisfactory level and 3 standards at an excellent level, an outstanding result that led the committee to recommend awarding the Engaged University accreditation.
CUT’s emphasis on engagement is at the core of its Vision 2021-2030 and is further reinforced by its Engagement Strategy and Plan. The university has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering community relationships and addressing societal needs through impactful initiatives. Supported by its Community Engagement Unit, CUT has widely aligned its educational offerings with regional needs, focuses on robust learning outcomes, and promotes long-term educational development.
The University underwent a rigorous four-phase accreditation process, including self-evaluation and a peer review visit, before being awarded Engaged University status by ACEEU.
