EPiCS Project

Engage People in Citizen Science
The EPiCS project aims to integrate Citizen Science with Service-Learning to foster interdisciplinary learning, empower students and researchers, and promote active citizenship. EPiCS will create an open platform for training educators and researchers, develop an online academic deliberative arena for collaborative decision-making, and design Citizen Science projects that engage local communities. The project combines participatory research with community involvement, leveraging digital tools and innovative teaching methods. EPiCS aspires to create lifelong learners committed to addressing societal challenges, providing an open e-learning platform for professional development, a handbook for students and researchers, and a toolkit to transfer best practices to other EU higher education institutions (HEIs). The project supports universities’ Third Mission to engage with society, promoting public engagement, open science, and knowledge transfer, and building an inclusive HE system that fosters civic engagement, social inclusion, and sustainable community-led development.
ACEEU's Role: Project Lead
As the lead partner, ACEEU leverages its extensive experience in international project management to foster positive cooperation, intensive communication within the consortium, and engagement with relevant stakeholders by coordinating the WP1. ACEEU is responsible for organising at least six joint-cooperation events, such as conferences and seminars, to promote the project and its outcomes. Additionally, ACEEU collaborates with the Quality and Risk Manager to develop a Risk Management Plan and oversee peer reviews and contingency planning. In WP3, ACEEU monitors quality achievements, collects progress reports, and leads the evaluation of pilot actions, consolidating findings and gathering feedback. ACEEU will also contribute to drafting case studies for the project’s handbook, incorporating experiences and community engagement insights to ensure the handbook is rich in contextual relevance.
