SMARTIE Project

Synergistic Management and Advancement of Artificial intelligence in European Higher Education
The SMARTIE project aims to support the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education by promoting innovative, student-centered teaching practices like micro-learning, reverse learning, and digital pedagogy. It proposes a harmonized European approach to AI in education, developing accessible educational materials and inclusive teaching methods using generative AI. The project also focuses on customized AI-driven assessment procedures and raising awareness about AI’s benefits, opportunities, and threats, especially for people with disabilities. SMARTIE will provide inclusive guidelines to combat issues like deep fakes, aligning with UNESCO's AI guidance and EU Sustainable Development Goal 4, while supporting universities in navigating digital transformation and ensuring ethics and integrity in education.
ACEEU's Role: Quality Manager
As a key partner in the SMARTIE project, ACEEU leads quality management and several key tasks across multiple work packages. In WP2, ACEEU develops and distributes an e-questionnaire to European universities to assess AI adoption in education, contributing to a comprehensive analysis. In WP3, ACEEU contributes to creating guidelines for teachers, researchers, students, and the general public, focusing on intellectual property protection and raising awareness about threats like deepfakes. For WP4, ACEEU leads the creation of a strategic agenda for AI deployment in higher education, researching EU policies and drafting the European Strategy for AI integration. ACEEU is also responsible for developing a dissemination strategy to ensure project results reach universities across Europe. In WP5, ACEEU leads the assessment of project outcomes, evaluating the impact of AI integration on universities and supporting sustainable AI adoption in higher education.
