The first TENACITY transnational project meeting took place on May 31st in Camerino, Italy.
During the first day, the University of Camerino organized a seminar about the main focus of the project: Third Mission in higher education. The dean of the university opened the seminar with an inspiring speech about the importance of going beyond the ivory tower, beyond the first two missions of higher education (teaching and researching) in order to fully embrace the Third Mission: generating an impact for the society we live in.
ACEEU was invited to give a talk in the same seminar, with the objective of answering to a very challenging question: “Public Engagement, Civic Commitment and institutional strategy: is the recognition and accreditation for the Third Mission possible?”.
Our answer was yes, recognizing and evaluating the Third mission strategies of higher education institutions is possible. Moreover, we think it is crucial that every university (both well-known ones and hidden champions), can have access to a system of evaluation that recognizes the effort of this institution within different ecosystems. After ACEEU even other partners gave a speech on a variety of different topics and perspectives but always dealing with the university Third Mission (e.g. engaged citizenry, the deliberative approach and participatory practices in higher education, open science, etc.). In the afternoon the partners defined the last important details for a questionnaire that will be used to gather data for the TENACITY Handbook (PR1).
During the second day, the consortium worked on the visual identity of the project and on the dissemination plan.
