Project Next Door draws to an end after leaving behind a trail of memorable events and substantial impact across the seven partner countries in Europe. In the final Transnational Project Meeting hosted by Afeji in Lille, France, project partners created a concluding plan for the final months in terms of updating and promoting the Next Door Platform for further reach among community and neighbourhood networks. Furthermore, partners discussed the action plan for concluding the awareness activities in their cities for fostering better community engagement and protection of the elderly.
In an attempt to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project, the final intellectual output of the project is concerned with conducting Local Social Resources Groups which are aimed at gathering concerned citizens, older adults and the neighbours of the elderly to discuss and deliberate potential policy recommendations in each country concerning the state and level of inclusion elderly citizens in civic participation to foster healthy and active ageing.
The final Multiplier Event was a successful conclusion which brought together members of various organizations working for the welfare of the elderly on the one hand and all project partners who shared the impact of working on the project for the last 2.5 years in their countries. What project Next Door has started is a flame which we hope will continue to burn for a long time coming to create meaningful change in communities and societies across the world to become stronger, more engaged and more resilient together!
