In an increasingly complex higher education landscape, institutions focus on impact creation and addressing societal challenges as part of their Third Mission. To support this mission, the DiCE Project has developed the DiCE Value Maps, a strategic framework designed to help university educators and course directors design digital community engagement courses while fostering student learning and social impact. The Value Maps provide a structured, value-centred approach, focusing on the needs of two key stakeholders: students and communities. The Value Maps are interactive and multi-level, offering a comprehensive view of stakeholder priorities. Educators can download and print the canvas for a clear overview or explore the maps digitally to find tailored resources, activities, and tools. There are two Value Maps:
Value Map for Student Learning: Identifies 18 drivers grouped under five key values:
- 21st-century skills
- Life competence
- Social impact
- Experiential learning
- Green skills
Value Map for Social Impact: Highlights 15 drivers categorized into five values:
- Education & Lifelong Learning
- Entrepreneurship & Job Creation
- Civil Engagement
- Community Resilience
- Sustainability
The framework links these values to practical drivers, sub-drivers, and tools. For example, under "Student Employability," one driver might involve leveraging alumni networks to support students in their job search efforts.
