In March 2024, ACEEU joined project partners at HOWEST University in Kortrijk, Belgium, for the second Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) of the Bridges by Mentors project.
The meeting centred on understanding the unique needs of international students and their role in mentoring outreach program the project is developing. Partners engaged in reflective discussions based on findings from focus groups and student panels, emphasizing key aspects such as cultural adaptation, mental health support, and the importance of strengthening connections with local communities. The consortium also began outlining the Guidelines for International Student Mentor Training, covering essential topics like communication skills, cultural awareness, and effective mentoring techniques.
A co-creation session provided a collaborative space for partners to brainstorm potential activities and delivery methods for the mentoring program. Ideas ranged from cultural exchanges and city tours to ongoing online and in-person training sessions. These conversations highlighted the importance of tailoring the guidelines to meet the diverse needs of both mentors and mentees, ensuring flexibility in their delivery.
The meeting reinforced the value of teamwork and innovative thinking, driving the project closer to its goal of creating impactful and sustainable mentoring programs. With a shared vision and strong collaboration, the partners are laying the groundwork for a project that not only supports international students but also facilitates meaningful integration into local communities.
