ACEEU and the rest of Mentor Your Future Partners are truly proud to announce the completion of the third Training Week held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The Training Week was hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bulgaria Association (BBBS Bulgaria) from 13 – 17 March 2023 and attended by a total of 15 student mentors coming from Bulgaria, Netherlands, Spain, France and Cyprus.
The students had different experiences when it came to mentoring – some of them have been mentors for quite a while, others were willing to become mentors and third had an extensive experience in both being mentors and student coordinators. Lead by the BBBS Bulgaria team, Lena Karnalova and Julia Petkova and also joined by a project partner from NHL Stenden, Aukje van der Veen, the Training Week provided the opportunity for the participants to better understand the important roles they play as mentors and at the same time offer the training to further develop their transversal skills.
The Training Week was designed with several activities that were meant to increase their team-building skills, expand their knowledge of different mentoring program implementations, as well as to enhance their civic engagement and soft skills. An added value of the Training Week was the sharing session delivered by one of the active volunteers of the BBBS Bulgaria in which he discussed how his experiences as a volunteer in civic engagement have positively impacted his current life.
All in all, based on the feedback received from the trainers and the participants, the Training Week in Plovdiv was a success. Most importantly, the Training Week is believed to have sparked more inspirations and motivation from the participants as well as resulted in fruitful and meaningful discussions on how to continuously promote and further develop mentoring as a powerful tool for social inclusion, especially in Higher Education.
