ACEEU organised an online focus group discussion to collect insights and stories on student mentoring from mentors, mentees, experts and program coordinators representing mentoring programs from Europe. Several German universities with well-established mentoring programs took part in the conversation, including the University of Freiburg, University of Stuttgart, University of Bonn, University of Münster, University of Jenna, and others. The meeting was also attended by participants from Denmark, Hungary and the United Kingdom.
The focus group was an opportunity to brainstorm approaches to some of the issues related to the MYFuture project: What skills student need to become effective role models and mentors? How to integrate mentoring into university curriculum? How to motivate students to consider mentoring for others? Participants shared their perspectives, stories, insights, and recommendations. MYFuture will use this input in its work on the development of a student training course on student mentoring. The meeting was also an excellent networking opportunity for professionals and practitioners involved in student mentoring from different institutions and countries in Europe.
